E.on Hanse starts construction of power-to-gas facility in Hamburg

(SeeNews) - Jun 25, 2013 - German regional energy provider E.on Hanse, part of utility E.on (FSE:EOAN), said on Monday it had initiated the construction of a power-to-gas facility in Hamburg's Reitbrook district.

The construction of the plant is expected to take a year and a half.

The power-to-gas facility, which will be feeding hydrogen received from wind energy into the Hamburg natural gas network, will be thus brought to operation in 2014, E.on Hanse said.

A total of EUR 13 million (USD 17.1m) will be invested in the project, the company added.

Among the participants in the project are E.on, Hydrogenics GmbH, SolviCore GmbH, Deutsches Zentrum fuer Luft- und Raumfahrt and the Fraunhof Institute for solar energy systems. The German government is expected to support the project with some EUR 6.5 million, E.on Hanse said.
